Garagista is Italian slang for someone who makes wine, literally or figuratively, in his (or her) own garage. It's a labor of love - infused with passion and homemade flavor. Making the wine, though, is only part of being a garagista. The really fun part is sharing the finished product.
The same goes for music. With their proximity to New York City and physical beauty, the lower Hudson Rivertowns have always attracted artistic types. Whether it's folk, rock, cabaret or jazz, there's abundant musical talent here. Yet in this age of superstores and mega-corporations, this is some of the best stuff you'd probably never hear. So we opted to celebrate this vibrant local scene by creating our own label -- and Garagista Music was born.
Our mission is to showcase Rivertown artists through online and local distribution, including compilation CD's like this one. We plan to use technology - plus some old-fashioned grass-roots outreach - to promote artists who would otherwise fly below the corporate radar. At the end of the day, we hope to play a useful part in strengthening our musical community.
So, with great pride, we present this first hearty batch of local talent. It's the kind of music that goes well with almost anything, but especially with good friends.
