He also booked Beck, the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and Ethyl Meatplow before they were household names. In other words, the man was ahead of his time. As a musician, he took this sensibility even further, creating quirky, inspired tunes that he glibly dismissed as "60s Italian spy movie sound-tracks done by a fifth grade jazz combo" -- as if that were a bad thing! A drunk driver brought Zinder's life to an end -- Thanksgiving 1994, but his music lives on thanks to the efforts of his many friends. "Chairs I have Known" (Catasonic Records) compiles Zinder's work with his groups Stay Home and Bufadora and provides a fitting tribute to this unsung genius. Every home should have one.
