John Payne was on the scene years ago making the kind of records that eveyone is trying to make now . His first solo album (Strange New Thing) was back in 1991 which yeidled the Babyface inspired number 1 hit "She just Can't Help it" which Payne wrote, produced and performed all the vocals and instruments. After a bitter dispute with the now defunct Independent Label, Man Network back in 1993, Payne took some time off as an artist and went behind the scene as a producer, session player and band member . He went on to record and perform with various artist including Parliment/Funkadelic, his mentors George Clinton, Prince and Larry Graham. He is also very instumental in the Bay Area music scene, working with local artist like The Coup, Merl Saunders, Melvin Seals (Jerry Garcia, Grateful Dead) and others. .....
