The John Lennon Songwriting Contest is open year round and features two Sessions -- with 72 finalists, 24 Grand Prize Winners, 12 Lennon Award Winners and 1 Maxwell Song of the Year. Rick Barry and Ben Sures are competing to be one of the 12 Lennon Award Winners.

If he becomes one of the 12 Lennon Award Winners he will receive at $5,000 advance from EMI Music Publishing and 1000 custom CDs printed in full color 6 panel digipaks courtesy of Disc Makers (worth $1990).

"Rick Barry is a once in a decade kind of talent," said Upstage Magazine publisher Gary Wien. "It's been amazing to see him progress as a songwriter in the past 2-3 years. Right now, he is in the type of groove that Elvis Costello was during the late 70s and early 80s when each new song sounded better than before and new songs made their debut each week.
"This contest should help the rest of the world recognize his brillance as a songwriter."
The John Lennon Songwriting Contest is an international songwriting contest which began in 1997. Judges include D12, Al Jarreau, Bob Weir, Matt Pinfield, Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees, Columbia artist Lyfe Jennings, Jesse Harris, Teairra Mari, The Black Eyed Peas, The Bacon Brothers, Ken Komisar, and Jake Hill.
