Returning to Manitoba in 2002 after over 8 years of Canadian travel, Mayes brings a phat country bluegrass guitar style, edgy warm vocals, and slick songs filled with experience and soulful sentiment. Her stage show has been known to make some miss their mouths when sipping their beer.
Mayes has spent years playing in such projects as country bluegrass band Off The Wagon, fronting Big Mama Rama, and has solo toured all over Canada. She has shared the stage with the likes of Iris Dement, Ricky Skaggs, Ray Condo, The Rockin' Highliners, Pat Temple, and many more.
A highlight of her musical career was when she paired up with Chris Carmichael in 2003. Carmichael is well known for having been bluesman Big Dave McLean's righthand man for years. Recently, she formed a band called 'Romi Mayes and The Temporarily Employed' whose members include players from such bands as The D.Rangers, The Duhks, and Corb Lund Band.
As spring 2005 approaches, Mayes' guitar and voice is being recognized for her track on The Guess Who Tribute compilation that is being played on every radio across Canada. Romi Mayes has already begun her 2005 Canadian touring to various festivals, clubs, and concerts to promote her latest album'The Living Room Sessions' which has been wowing audiences across the country.
