He is poly-instrumental, his first instrument being the Violin which he began in 5th grade to impress a girl. From there he went on learning to play a wide variety of instruments sometimes taking as little as 3 months to master. Ryan honed his musical skill playing with various church bands and in the revered Peoples Church orchestra under the leadership of the great Douglas Holck. Ryan started The Silvertooth Band in 1997, named after the 2 silver teeth he had up until his wedding. Silvertooth's music style was as diverse as the instruments they played, until discovering the Canadian group Captain Tractor who greatly influenced the band's style. Silvertooth now markets itself as a Canadian Folk band, and to hear the music one would never know the boys were Fresno-born. As the live shows became fewer and further between after Ryan's children were born, the occasional gig wasn't enough to satiate his musical appetite, so he released his first all-piano CD, Changing of the Seasons, and sold it out of the coffee shop that Silvertooth was known to frequent. A surprising 1400 sales later he wanted to do more, but by then was anticipating a job transfer to Georgia, so could not begin a new project with Silvertooth. Ryan didn't want to just do another piano cd, and had wanted to experiment with electronic music as well as real instruments. He then turned to his new iBook, and began creating out of instruments and patches what has now become the estimable And Apples for Dessert.
