I'm a major pack rat. I've still got old love letters from girls I haven't seen in over ten years. I've got songs even older. These words and sounds have been in my head so long, they're like bad habits. I had to [+]Ok. This is how it really happened.
I'm a major pack rat. I've still got old love letters from girls I haven't seen in over ten years. I've got songs even older. These words and sounds have been in my head so long, they're like bad habits. I had to dump them somehow. So I made this disc.
I didn't feel it would be fair to these songs to just toss them off, but I can't claim them deserving of full production either. So I decided to immerse myself in the process as well as I could and attempted to recreate the circumstances under which most of them were written. I broke up with my girlfriend and quit my job (neither one was really working for me anyway). I dug out all of the recording gear I had grown up with and rebuilt the no-tech studio I experimented with through my high school years.
The Beatles masterpiece, sgt. Pepper's lonely hearts club band, was recorded by master engineers on an 8-track tape machine. Theandyfossettrocksupreme was recorded by a hack with a broken 8-track. You can hear the difference. The recording is noisy and rough. I quite like the way it turned out.
Unfortunately for anyone listening to this disc, the vocals are pretty bad. Sorry for that, but I tried to make up for it by turning them down. Special bonus - I kept the instrumental masturbation to an absolute minimum and tried to bury as much of it as possible in the mix. Overall, the sound is muddy and spastic. It's kind of like getting drunk and then drinking a pot of coffee.
The songs aren't great either, but they are fun. I'm not pretending to be a poet here, but I managed to keep things as honest and concrete as I know how. I realized after I wrote up the liner that many of the tracks have names like "I eat cheese." I guess this really is pretty autobiographical, so you'll get to know me pretty well by the end of the disc.
i make all of the disc-packages myself in batches of 5 - 10. each batch is put together using supplies on hand, so they're all a little different.
So anyway, here you are. 4.75 inches of the andy fossett rock supreme. It's not the best music you've ever heard, but it's certainly not the worst, and it's guaranteed to be one of the greasiest productions you'll ever come across. Let me know what you think. I promise to do better next time.
