Born in Huntsville, Alabama and raised on the campus of Oakwood College, Garvin Dean was brought up in a very musical environment. Influenced by his father, a classical concert pianist and his mother, a tremendous singer, it was not very long until Garvin's music talent blossomed. Garvin attended Oakwood College for a year and then transferred to the University of Alabama in Huntsville to get his degree in Chemical Engineering. While in college, he played with several of the city's popular bands and developed a following. Currently, Garvin resides in the Charlotte, NC area.
Garvin Dean, as a part of other musical acts, has been invited to open for such groups as Pieces of a Dream and John P. Kee.
Garvin's commitment to his unique style of music is only surpassed by his desire to take his music to those who normally would not be attracted to this form of expression. It is his hope that through his music, the beauty of the jazz form will not only be enhanced, but also appreciated more by all.
