The Washouts were a garage punk band hailing from San Diego and led by singer/songwriter/guitarist, child prodigy - Jeff "Rip" Carson. In 1991, at the precocious age of 11, Rip put together The Washouts with a couple of girls in his 6th grade class who were big Ramones fans. Together they began recording the material written by Rip and represented here amongst the 30 tracks spanning the years 1991-1996.
A year after starting the band, Rip decided to replace the girls with some more seasoned musicians and Ginger Allen joined on Bass and Eric Mitchell on the Drums. With this line-up the band developed a regional underground following. Everyone wanted to check out the band with the 12 year old singer/guitarist who really could play. After playing and recording for a number of years, the band mysteriously dissolved. Rip recalls that here were several line-up changes near the end of the band's life but in his words "to be honest, I can't remember any of the other guys names!"
During the recording sessions for The Hexxers "Freaks With The Savage Beat" (GGR 1039), Rip found the old Washouts tapes. The material on the tapes was too good to be left unreleased. The 30 tracks are primarily original material all written by Rip with a few choice covers from bands like The Misfits, The Sonics, The Fall-outs and FYP.
These tracks span Rip's adolescent development years from age 11 to 16 - this is the soundtrack of a teenage Washout!
