Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1962, Weber Iago began his research and quest for musical excellence at the early age of seven when he first began his musical studies, focusing on piano. Throughout his teenage years, Iago won many prestigious piano and organ competitions, leading him to begin his undergraduate studies in Music, Languages and Literature at the age of eighteen.
While attending the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Weber was in much demand to write for ensembles for the University, and developed extensive compositional skills. During this time Weber was also honored by the distinction of being chosen as the first soloist of the university's 1984 symphonic season, for which he performed Maurice Revel's "Piano Concerto in G".
After graduating from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in 1985, Iago was invited to join the famous Tabajara Orchestra where he toured for several months throughout Brazil gaining extensive recognition as a consummate classical pianist.
In 1987, Weber immigrated to the United States to further his studies into different types of music. As he became renowned in the world of Jazz in the U.S., he began opening for many artists such as Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Dianne Reeves, Terrence Blanchard and recorded with James Newton and Moacir Santos as well as working as band leader for his own group Zen Blend. Most notably, Iago recorded two CD's with the great Brazilian guitarist Romero Lubambo.
Over the years, Iago has been in much demand as a composer and arranger for artists such as flautists Ali Ryerson and Keith Underwood, Brazilian singer Claudia Villela, Jeff Linsky, Sanae Nakayma and Kenny Stahl, just to name a few. In 1998 he was invited to be the musical director of the legendary Tamba Trio.
In 2000, Weber toured in Europe, where he recorded a CD with talented pianist/composer Charles Loos, in Belgium. That CD contains original compositions by Loos and Iago and is titled " O Sonho e o Sorriso". While in Belgium, Weber also recorded a CD titled, "Two Hands, One Heart". That CD is a compilation of solo piano pieces that are interpretations of well-known standards that showcase his uniquely world-culture-inspired approach.
